About Unique Society
Unique Society Pvt Ltd is a government registered private limited company in the field of manufacturing and export of Nepalese handicrafts while its expertise is pashmina products. Unique society has also been involved in manufacturing and export of different Nepalese handicrafts including hemp products in the past years. Hemp fabric is made from the stem of the Cannabis Sativa plant which can also be cultivated. This fiber has always been valued for its strength and durability. It is an indigenous plant which regenerates quickly after harvesting and does not require any chemical input for its growth or during processing. We consider it an environmentally friendly fabric.
The hemp fabric in our products is grown and woven in the villages of Nepal. It is tailored in Kathmandu. The tailors and other workers creating these fine products receive a fair wage and additional benefits.
Using this material combined with cotton, wool, leather and other materials, new exiting handicraft items like belts, wallets, hats, bags, purse, etc can be produced.
The fiber, known as pashm or pashmina in some parts of Asia, became known for its use of beautiful shawls and other handmade items. Fabric made of cashmere is warm and comfortable to the wearer, and it has excellent draping qualities and soft textures. Cashmere fabric are subject to abrasion in wearing, pilling, or brunching together of surface fibers, is problem in knitwear. Cashmere is used mainly for fine coat, dress, and suit fabrics and for high-quality knitwear and hosiery. It is sometimes blended with other fibers. The strong, coarse hair separated from the down is used locally for grained bags, ropes, blankets, and tent curtains. Because of the very high cost of gathering and processing the fiber and very low production, cashmere is considered a luxury fabric. Demand and consequently price is affected by fashion trends. New man-made fibers with similar texture and fineness, produced at much lower cost, have become a source of competition.
The major producers of cashmere are China, Mongolia and Iran. Cashmere is also produced in the Indian subcontinent and in Afghanistan and Turkey. The United States, the United Kingdom and Japan are leading consumers.
